Privacy Policy

SortStops is a free route planner that works without accounts, sign-ups, or tracking profiles. This page explains exactly what data the service touches and what happens to it. The short version: the stops you enter are used to compute your route and nothing else — we don't store them, and we don't sell anything.

The stops you enter

When you press “Sort stops”, your list of addresses is sent to our server, which forwards it to Google's Routes API to compute the fastest order. We do not save your stops: there is no database, and your route exists only in your browser for the current session. Our server logs record errors only, not your addresses.

Third-party services

• Google (autocomplete and routing). As you type in the “Add a stop” field, your input is sent to Google Places from your browser to show suggestions, and sorted routes are computed by Google's Routes API. Opening a finished route hands it to Google Maps. Google's own privacy policy applies to those requests.
• CARTO (map tiles). The preview map loads basemap tiles from CARTO, which sees your IP address like any content server (CARTO privacy notice).
• Cloudflare (hosting). The site is served through Cloudflare's CDN, which processes standard connection data (like your IP address) to deliver the site (Cloudflare privacy policy).
• Umami (analytics, self-hosted). We count page views with a self-hosted Umami instance — cookieless, anonymized, no cross-site tracking, and the data stays on our own server. It records aggregate stats like page views and referrers, never your stops.

What we keep on the server

To keep the free service available to everyone, we rate-limit requests per IP address. Those IP timestamps live only in server memory for up to 24 hours and are then discarded. That is the only per-visitor data the server holds.

Cookies and local storage

SortStops sets no tracking cookies. Your light/dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage, on your device, and never leaves it.

What we don't do

• No accounts, passwords, or payment details — the service never asks.
• No selling or sharing of your data with advertisers.
• No ads, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting.

A practical note on sensitive routes

Route data can be revealing (home, work, clients). Because we don't store your stops, there is nothing for us to leak — but the Google services above do process them to compute your route, as they would if you used Google Maps directly. If a route is highly sensitive, weigh that the same way you would for any maps product.
